Frequently Asked Questions
How does Bloomland teach my kid the language?
Bloomland uses short, game-style micro-lessons — about 10 minutes each — delivered by Babbu, our tiger mascot. Each lesson combines listening (audio narration), speaking (your child repeats phrases out loud), and for Hindi and Mandarin, reading (character and script recognition). Lessons are structured as a 30-day path per language, starting with the most practical vocabulary your family actually uses: family member names, greetings, common phrases. There are no grammar lectures or flashcard walls. The app tracks XP, hearts, and streaks to keep your kid motivated and coming back every day.
What languages are available today? When will more ship?
Available now (varies by language):
- Hindi — Speak: Rising Star + Bright Star levels live; more levels rolling out.
- Mandarin — Speak: Rising Star live; more levels rolling out.
- Tamil — Speak: Rising Star live.
- Telugu — Speak: Rising Star live.
- Spanish — Speak: Rising Star live.
- French — Speak: Rising Star live.
- Kannada — Speak: Rising Star live.
More levels and Read tracks (Hindi and Mandarin scripts) are on the roadmap. Email [email protected] to register interest and hear about new additions first.
What's covered in the free preview?
The free preview gives you 3 lessons in every available language, ending with Babbu's Starter Badge. It's enough for your child to learn greetings, a few family words, and their first phrases — so you can see how Bloomland works before deciding whether to subscribe.
Free-preview users can create one child profile. Full 30-day paths and additional languages beyond the 3-lesson preview require a Bloomland subscription.
How does the speech scoring work? Is my kid's voice recorded?
Yes — here is exactly what happens, in plain language:
- Your child taps the microphone button and says the target phrase.
- The recording (a short clip, usually 1–5 seconds) is sent over a secure, encrypted connection to Bloomland's scoring service.
- Our scoring service uses Cloudflare's Whisper AI model to transcribe the audio into text and compare it to the expected phrase.
- A score (and encouraging feedback from Babbu) is sent back to the app.
- The audio recording is deleted immediately after the Whisper transcription completes. It is not stored on our servers, not reviewed by humans, and not used for any purpose other than that one scoring call.
The score itself (pass/fail + accuracy) is saved as part of your child's lesson progress so they can track improvement over time. The recording is not.
There is also an optional "record your name" feature for celebratory moments. That recording stays on your device only — it is never sent to us.
My kid can't get past Day 1 — what now?
A few things to try:
- SpeakIt scoring: Make sure your child is speaking clearly and not too fast. The microphone works best in a quiet room. If your child is getting frustrated, they can tap the "Skip" button on any speaking exercise to keep the lesson moving — skipping doesn't block progress.
- Microphone permissions: Go to your device's Settings → Privacy → Microphone and confirm Bloomland has permission. Without it, SpeakIt won't work.
- Hearts: If your child has run out of hearts, they'll need to wait for them to refill (hearts refill over time) or watch a short encouragement video to earn one back. Hearts are designed to slow down, not stop, learning — so encourage a break and try again.
- Still stuck? Email [email protected] with a description of what's happening and what device you're using. We'll get it sorted.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Bloomland is billed via Stripe on the web. Three ways to cancel:
- In the app — open the app, tap into the Parent Zone (solve the parent math-gate), then Settings → Subscription → Manage in Stripe. Follow the prompts to cancel.
- On the web — sign in at bloomland.app, open the Parent Zone, and use the Stripe-hosted billing portal link.
- Email us — write to [email protected] with "Cancel subscription" in the subject and we will process the cancellation within one business day.
You will continue to have full access to Bloomland until the end of your current billing period.
Refunds: Bloomland offers a 14-day money-back guarantee on the initial subscription purchase. Email [email protected] within 14 days of your first charge for a full refund. Renewal refunds are considered case-by-case — contact us and we will be reasonable.
Can my whole family share one subscription?
Yes. One Bloomland subscription covers up to four child profiles under one parent account. Each child gets their own progress, XP, streak, and language path. You manage all profiles from the same parent login.
There is a single tier at launch — no separate "Premium" or "Family" plans to choose between. Founding families lock in the $49/year founding rate for life (as long as their subscription stays continuously active); everyone else pays the current regular rate ($79-99/year range) posted at bloomland.app/pricing.
If I'm a founder, what happens if I want KidSprout too later?
Your founder rate is locked for life. When KidSprout is available in your area, existing Bloomland founders can add KidSprout for just $10/year more ($59/year total) and lock in the bundle-founder rate for life — the same deal cold users get when they pick the bundle up front.
The upgrade will be self-serve inside your Bloomland account settings once KidSprout is live in your metro (roll-out is provider-coverage-based). No support ticket required.
If you ever cancel one side of the bundle later, the other side reverts to its own single-product founder rate — your founder status doesn't disappear.
Does Bloomland work offline?
Partially. Bloomland downloads lesson content (audio narration and lesson data) to your device for offline playback. If your child has already loaded a lesson, they can typically complete it without an internet connection.
The SpeakIt speech-scoring feature requires an internet connection because the audio is processed by our scoring service in real time. If you're offline, your child can still listen and try to speak along, but the scoring step will show as unavailable until you reconnect.
Lesson progress is synced to our servers when you reconnect.
Why did my streak reset?
A streak represents the number of consecutive days your child completes at least one lesson. A streak resets if a full calendar day passes with no lesson completed.
The most common causes:
- Timezone: Bloomland uses your device's local timezone for the streak counter. If you travel across timezones, the day boundary may shift.
- Missed day: If the app was opened but no lesson was completed (e.g., the app was closed before the lesson finished), that day counts as a miss.
- Streak shield: Premium and Family subscribers get a streak shield that protects against one missed day per week. Check Settings → Profile to see if your streak shield was used.
If you believe your streak reset incorrectly due to a technical error, email [email protected] with your account email and approximately when the reset happened. We'll investigate.
How is Bloomland different from Duolingo?
Bloomland and Duolingo are both gamified language-learning apps, but they serve different audiences and make different choices:
| Bloomland | Duolingo | |
|---|---|---|
| Target age | Kids 6–12 | Teens and adults (primarily) |
| Focus | Heritage/diaspora languages (Hindi, Mandarin, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada) | Broad language catalog |
| Approach | 30-day structured path, family vocabulary first | Open-ended tree |
| Script/reading | Hindi script (Devanagari) + Mandarin characters (Hanzi) | Varies by language |
| Ads | None | Yes (free tier) |
| Analytics/tracking | None — by design | Yes |
| Mascot | Babbu the tiger | Duo the owl |
Bloomland's specific advantage for diaspora families: we teach the vocabulary your child actually needs for family conversations — grandparent names, food, home, feelings — not just travel phrases. And because we teach Devanagari and Hanzi (not just transliteration), kids build real literacy, not just pronunciation.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. To permanently delete your account and all associated child data:
- Open the Bloomland app → Settings → Account → Delete Account, or
- Email [email protected] with the subject line "Delete my account."
Upon deletion: all profile data, lesson progress, and child information is removed from our active systems immediately, with residual backup copies purged within 30 days. Payment history is retained as required by tax law.
Note: deleting your Bloomland account does not cancel your App Store subscription. Cancel via Apple first (see "How do I cancel my subscription?" above), then delete your account.
I'm a teacher — can I use Bloomland in my classroom?
Bloomland's current license is for personal, family use. Each account supports up to four child profiles, which may work for small family groups but is not designed for classroom-scale use.
If you're interested in a classroom or school license, email [email protected] with your school name, grade level, and approximate number of students. We're exploring an educator program — your inquiry helps us prioritize it.
Where can I report a bug?
Email [email protected] with "Bug report" in the subject line. Please include:
- What happened (describe the error or unexpected behavior)
- What you expected to happen
- What device and iOS/Android version you're using
- A screenshot or screen recording if possible (the more detail, the faster we can fix it)
We read every report. If it's a crash or data-loss bug, we treat it as urgent.
